Cornelius de Keijzer,
Master Mariner, has been involved in the shipping business for 44 years.
After graduating from the Nautical Academy Rotterdam he joined the Holland
America Line as a junior deck officer and after a career of 11 years in the
Dutch, Liberian and Canadian merchant marine he signed off and joined Furness
Shipping and Agency as shore captain and liner manager.
In 1974 he exchanged private enterprise for public service and was 13 years
involved in operational vessel traffic- and portcontrol management at Pilot
Maas, Europoort and the Port of Rotterdam Harbour Co-ordination Centre
respectively.
From 1987 – 1991 he was appointed as Regional Harbourmaster of the Left Bank
Port Area, after which he switched over from operational management to policy
development as Senior Policy Advisor for the Maritime Development Department of
the Division of Strategy and Communication of the Rotterdam Port Management.
He is an acknowledged expert on port and nautical environment and safety
affairs, frequent lecturer and publicist on a wide variety of subjects and well
known as a veteran speaker.
Capt. De Keijzer
represented the Port of Rotterdam in a large number of International, EU and
National official bodies, projects and working groups, committees and
foundations.
From 1996 – 2000 he was councillor of the IBIA, the International Bunker
Industry Association and from 2000 - 2005 he was Chairman of the International Bunker
Conference, jointly organized by the BI - Norwegian
Shipping Academy and the Rotterdam Port Management.
Formally he retired per 1 July 2004 and for his merits the Rotterdam Court of
Mayor and Aldermen rewarded him with the "Erasmus" medal. Until 2005
he was
assigned as bunker consultant and advisor for marine environmental concerns for
the Port of Rotterdam.
Recently he has been elected as Chairman of the Rotterdam Branch of the World
Ship Society.
