Niels
Groenewold was born at
Rotterdam in 1974.
He is General Manager of commercial affairs and new buildings of Uniloyd b.v.
After he successfully completed the Dutch School of Inland Shipping, he started
his career as a sailor at VERENIGDE TANKREDERIJ B.V., better known as VT or
Uniloyd. Having fulfilled the necessary period of two years experience on board,
he became first officer of a bunker barge, sailing between
Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp for the next two years. After this period he moved
to a chemical tanker sailing the river Rhine and became, after he succeeded for
his patents, the youngest captain of the company at the age of 23.
Again after two years, he was asked to take up a post at the office of Uniloyd
b.v., at the planning department of bunker barges. Later on he set up a luboil
department within Uniloyd, looking after the supplies and keeping up the stock
positions for a major oil company.
Furthermore he became project manager for the new building of the “World's
largest Inland Shipping Bunker Barge” named 'VLISSINGEN' and supervised the
construction of the luboil barge 'VOORBURG'. He also supervised the construction
of the two bunker barges mt.'VANCOUVER' and 'VERONA'. These four barges are
currently a great success and valuable objects for the company, due to his
knowledge, practical experience and the nerve to improve with innovative
manners.
Currently he is fully engaged supervising the construction of three very large
tankers: mt. VLAARDINGEN, mt. VEENDAM and mt. VALENCIA, which, according to the
prospects, will be finished by the end of 2005.
