Niels
Groenewold was born at
Rotterdam in 1974.
He is the CEO and owner of VT, a barging company based in Rotterdam who operates
on the European waterways and in Panama.
VT was founded in 1932 and is the oldest bunker barge operator in Europe. VT used to be part of Vopak, at the beginning of the merger of Van Ommeren and Pakhoed. They operate in three sectors; HFO, Lubricants and Chemicals. As an industry leader, VT is dedicated to providing optimized flexible services to her international clients in the petrochemical industry. This commitment and their transparency makes them their partner of choice.
After he successfully completed the Dutch School of Inland Shipping, Niels
started his career as a sailor at VERENIGDE TANKREDERIJ B.V., better known as
VT. Having fulfilled the necessary period of two years experience on board, he
became first officer of a bunker barge, sailing between
Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp for the next two years. After this period he moved
to a chemical tanker sailing the river Rhine and became, after he succeeded for
his patents, the youngest captain of the company at the age of 23.
Niels is responsible for the newbuild program of VT and has completed numerous
projects like “World's largest Inland Shipping Bunker Barge” named 'VLISSINGEN',
“World Cleanest Ship”, luboil barge VANORA. The VT newbuild program has switched
from fleet renewal to fleet expansion and will be continuous.
